Anbang Academy of Nanjing University was founded in August 2020, offering majors such as Science Experimental Classe (Chemistry and Life Sciences), Science Experimental Classe (Earth Sciences and Resource Environment), Environmental Science and Engineering (Environmental and Health Experimental Class), Stomatology, and Clinical Medicine (5+3 Integrated Program). Anbang Academy is committed to integrating general education with professional education, creating a academy atmosphere of flexible thinking, boundaryless knowledge, and interdisciplinary fusion.
Anbang Academy is named after Academician Dai Anbang (1901-1999), an alumnus of Nanjing University, an inorganic chemist, a chemistry educator, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Dai Anbang taught at Nanjing University all his life and devoted his life to the construction of chemistry and the training of chemistry talents in China. He was involved in the founding of the Chinese Chemical Society, the founding of the journal Chemistry, and the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry at Nanjing University, leaving a strong mark on the development of chemistry in China. He advocated the concept of “comprehensive scientific education”, stating that “comprehensive scientific education requires teaching not only to teach scientific knowledge and techniques, but also to train scientific thinking and methods, and to cultivate scientific spirit and morality”. He has trained a large number of excellent chemistry talents for China. Dai Anbang’s rigorous scholarship and noble patriotism will also become valuable spiritual assets of Anbang College, guiding teachers and students to jointly write a glorious chapter of education.
The Academy is headed by academician Shen Shuzhong, with 50 freshmen mentors and 70 peer mentors, and has set up a central office for student affairs, which maintains close coordination with all faculties and departments, forming a strong and powerful team for collaborative education. The Academy actively explores the connotation of cultivating people, forms the cultural symbols of the Academy, and cultivates the concept of Academy culture. For in-depth understanding and implementation of the "Eight Comprehensives”, from the “limited” three-foot podium in the classroom to the “endless” path of life outside the classroom, the education team of Anbang Academy pursues the resonance of teaching knowledge and leading values to students, striving to build the academy into an open cultural field, an active thought field and a harmonious ecological field, and carefully cultivating well-rounded talents who can take up the great responsibility of national rejuvenation.
