Xingzhi Academy

In August 2020, Nanjing University established the Xingzhi Academy in the School of First-Year Students. The name of the Academy is derived from Tao Xingzhi, a famous educator in modern China. Tao Xingzhi devoted his life to the education of ordinary people, practiced what he preached, and was known as a great educator of the people. The Academy upholds the spirit of Tao and practices the concept of “life is education, society is school, and teaching is integrated”, encouraging students to fully participate in social practice activities while mastering professional knowledge and cultivating social leaders with unity of knowledge and action and a global perspective.
The Dean of Xingzhi Academy is Professor Zhao Shuming, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanjing University and Honorary Dean of Business School of Nanjing University. The Academy contains two major categories: economic management and social science, and admitted 677 students in 2020. After a year of training in the Academy, the new students will enter the School of Law, School of Business, School of Government, School of Information Management, School of Social Sciences and School of International Relations to continue their professional studies. The Student Affairs Center team consists of five people, who are fully responsible for the daily work affairs, including ideological and political work, teaching and academic affairs, and educational management.
Xingzhi Academy is built around the “Eight Overall Requirements” of Nanjing University in building a college for first-year students, constructing a “Three-Comprehensive Education” system, improving the “Educating Five Domains Simultaneously” pattern, aiming to build a learning and living community centered on teachers and students. Xingzhi Academy attracts renowned teachers and scholars to share new academic knowledge, promote interdisciplinary integration, broaden students’ horizons, and effectively promote the general education, cognitive education, and interdisciplinary education of new students. Through various forms such as scientific research training, research and practice, and exchange and visits, Xingzhi College closely connects the first classroom and the second classroom in its practices, highlighting the educational characteristics of itself and effectively enhancing the innovation spirit and practical ability of freshmen.
